Officials 2-day tournament
Tomorrow is our 2-day tournament. Following immedietly after school we are going to Aiea High School for weighing in and starting the first round of wrestling. This week im coming in 125, hopefully weighing in at 123.6, This is officials meaning its one of the most important tournaments of the season besides states and OIA's. I am striving to place first in this tournament even though there are going to be some ILH schools such as Punahou and Kamehameha; which are very good schools in wrestling. Well thats the last of my blog, wish me luck.

My Newest Wrestling Shoes: This is my newest wrestling shoes; I have about 4 pairs of wrestling shoes. This one is one of my favorites. These are the Asics Dan Gable Ultimates, with a soft full Escaine upper, its form fitting and light weight. The Unisole™ construction allows better traction upon contact with the mat. I just bought these this weekend and they run for about $103.00 and is a very good shoe. Picture provided by: combatsports.com

Warning: Wrestling may be harmful!
WARNING: Wrestling is a harmful sport if you don't know what your doing or you wrestle careless. Don't get me wrong; theres a difference between an amatuer wrestler and a wrestler who doesnt know how to wrestle. In wrestling there is no chairs or ropes, there are now crowds or masks, there is just you and your opponent. Wrestling has its occasional injurys, like a hyper extended elbow or a 2nd level concossion, but my goal is not to scare you of the dangers of wrestling, my goal is to inform you on it. I am briefing you to become a better wrestler but not only that, you can become a smarter wrestler. When being thrown by a suplex, laterall drop, etc. you dont want to try and brace yourself. As stupid as it sounds bracing yourself actually increases the chance of you hurting yourself. When falling follow through with the throw not only will it save you from a trip to the athletic trainer but it may allow you a chance to roll through the throw and score. This is an easy tip; you can ask your coach for any further questions maybe to explain what your suppose to do when your opponent is executing a throw. Hope this has made you aware, and dont forget...Win by Pin.

Head Gear
Picture provided by www.thecimmerian.comThe importance of headgear is vital, I cant stress enough to tell wrestlers to always wear headgear. Not only does headgear prevent concussions it helps prevent cauliflower ear. Famous MMA fighter and wrestler Randy "the Natural" Couture (above) has handled years of Wrestling and training and he has cauliflower ear. I suggest Morgan headgear for wrestling it has a life-time warranty and it never comes off in matches!. This is a picture of Morgan Headgear (below). They come in a variety of colors and are available at Suplay, or the link I provided in my previous blog.

Referee Signals
Picture provided by: allstaractivities.com-When wrestling you may want to know all of the signals to know what is going on in your match. To help I have provided this chart to brief you on the different calls. Hopefully this will help you be more aware on what the referee is trying to tell you what you can and can't do.
Wrestling Basic's
Picture provided by: sportspectator.com-This is a basic wrestling mat. A wrestling mat is where all the magic happens; Two wrestlers enter and are assigned a color by there designated table (Red or Green). The inner circle is your main boundarys, you want to try to keep the action within this circle, however the outer circle is the "out ot bounds". When a player starts a match he sets a foot on his assigned colored line and shakes his opponents hand as a sign of sportmanship. The match then starts. If a wrestler happens to step out of bounds the match resests into the inner circle. There is two ways by winning a match, by pin or by points. Scoring is simple; a take down is one point, getting to your opponents back scores you two points, escaping from your opponent is one point, and near fall is 1 point. A match consist of three wrestling periods in which are 1:30 seconds long. If both wrestlers are tied in the third period it then goes into sudden death. Sudden death has a time limit of 60 seconds; within this 60 secs. you have to some how score on your opponent in order to win. Lastly id like to review the pin, the fastest way to end a match. A pin is when you expose your opponent back to the mat with both shoulders down until the referee can call the pin. Well thats the basics I hope that this imformation may brief you on the basic rules for wrestling, and always remember when the match begins, "Win by Pin".
